this is my story.

My art career started with studies in Fine Arts, majoring in Graphic printmaking such as silk-screening, etching and wood cut, which was an exciting phase of discovery and exploration. I then expanded my studies into full-time ceramics, a decision made early in my career and which has been such a fun and creative phase of my artistic journey. This focus on ceramics did not diminish the value of my Fine Arts study as I still make use of both disciplines in my work.
Before coming to Howick, I lived on a farm in the Vrede district, where I taught pottery classes from home and actively sought out a market for my own work. After moving to Howick, I continued to teach ceramics from home, while raising two children and supplying my work to shops on the Midlands Meander. I also mass produced ceramic ware for commercial sale in some well-known retail shops for a while.
My children are now grown up so I no longer teach from home, nor do I have to mass produce to earn a living primarily from ceramics. My work has thus become more individualistic and I am able to experiment with a plethora of ideas and directions that I wish to follow. The work I am now producing is less obviously functional, more aesthetic but definitely still useful.
